Before and After

Before and after surgery photos with the original breast surgery crew. Round 2.0.

Update:

First and foremost, thank you, thank you, thank you—from the bottom of my heart, for the texts and calls and messages and handwritten notes and prayers and energy! I feel it all and am deeply humbled to have the friends and family I do.

The surgery went exceptionally well; they were only able to do a very small partial fill of my expanders, but some is better than none, I suppose. I’m healing really well, and everything is going great. The right breast had a lot of unexpected scar tissue from the previous biopsies and from the hematoma I had after my reduction in May. This caused some minor complications for the team.

It also resulted in an incredible amount of pain—pain that, despite naturally birthing a child, etc., has been unexpected and overwhelming and really challenging. Frankly, it’s the most gut-wrenching fucking pain I have ever experienced. My same day surgery became a two night hospital stay with Fentanyl IVs and a lot of trial and error approaches. My IU Simon Cancer Center team worked diligently to create a pain management plan I can comfortably go home with.

I will get to go home tomorrow with a pre-arranged hospital bed and with the most incredible rockstar of a best friend, Keri. She has done so much for me that I really can’t even put into words or begin to thank her for. But Keri, I love you. You’re the best.

See you all when I get home and settled.

Muah!
